This tribal embroidered piece is called Bokani (Muffler). It is pakka hand embroidered piece with beautiful mirror-works. It was made in desert Tharparkar, Pakistan.
The Term BOKANI means – Bo is Two and Kan is Ears. It is a traditional wrap worn by young groom to protect his tender face and valuable earring from dessert winds. Bokani for groom’s shoulder. Beautiful sash with perfect embroidery and mirror inlays, worn by a groom on the wedding day.
Made in two parts each pieced of two cloths joined at centre with ‘Khilan’; Lined, piping; Hand stitched, embroidered: back, interlaced, chain, herringbone stitches.
Bokani whose fabric is dyed by using 8 natural colours blue from indigo, brown from kattha, light brown from babool tree, green from onion skin, yellow from palash flowers and so on. To achieve the perfect colour is a lengthy process.
