Meghwal tribe is one of the most hidden in Gujarat. Meghwal women are renowned for their embroidery and make detailed quilts sitting outside their colored mud huts. They wear beautiful jewellery and colored costumes where threads and mirrors intertwine to form a unique, colorful and bright design.
The motifs range from camels to flowers and more increasingly are inspired but the modern world. Meghwal are known for pakko embroidery, which literally means “solid” – and you can see how almost every inch of the fabric is covered with stitching. The most common stitches are chain, double buttonhole, stain and fly, supplemented with mirrors, tassels and pompoms.
