This is an old Kutch or Gujarat, India embroidery cloth hanging or cover. It is has handspun cotton ground in a white around the borders wonderfully framing the madder red on the inside panel. The embroidery is in cotton and depicts floral and bird motifs. It has small handmade mirrors stitched into the embroidery produced in a traditional method that is now a disappearing craft. Several of these mirrors are missing. There is some slight wear in small areas of the piece but does not affect the overall composition. The back is in a satin cloth which provides structure to the entire textile.
